Hidden Treasures didn’t start out as business, or even the thought of a business. It came out of the need to have something to do.

I never thought of myself as a crafter, or even the least bit crafty. Yes, I would dabble here or there with rubber stamps and doodle, but that was about it. Nothing real serious. My mom was the crafter in our house. The one that had drawers full of stamps and papers and other odds and ends that I had absolutely no idea what she need it for. But somehow she would be the one that turned those odds and ends into the most one-of a kind and beautiful cards that I have seen. She would always joke about how one day all of craft supplies would be mine. It was one of those things I thought was a long ways away. Turns out I was wrong and in a blink she was gone and I had a room full of craft supplies that I had no idea what to do with. So I started sorting through it and stumbled onto a small drawer for soap making supplies and it caught my attention. So i started to teach myself how to make soap. Since it was something I could do in quiet early morning hours when sleep wouldn’t come and I didn’t want to wake the rest of the family. After a little bit dabbling with those supplies I added some to the collection and decided that I would make everyone’s Christmas present that year. And I did. And little by little the collection grew and soon I was teaching myself how to make bath salts and scrubs. Then came candles. As I was learning and giving these as gifts, I kept hearing from friends and family that I needed to share this with the world. That the world needed to see how wonderful the soaps and candles were. And so Hidden Treasures was born.

Hidden Treasures is my way of sharing not only handcrafted soaps and candles, but in a way finishing a dream my mom had. She wanted to start her own business, a custom sewing & embroidery business but gave up on it before it really got off the ground due to her declining health. This is my way of honoring that dream and in a way leaving my own legacy for my two daughters, just with a smaller room full of odds and ends. At least for now anyway.

But that is what I want for them, is to not only teach them to have the courage to go for their dreams, but to learn that sometimes the dreams we thought we wanted, are just stepping stones to where we need to be and just because they don’t turn out the way we thought they should, that doesn’t mean we don’t have endless opportunities to make something beautiful if you are willing to put in the time and heart. At Hidden Treasures, we truly put our heart and soul into every product that leaves our little corner of the world.
